I'm curious why some software would do that?

In case it's not obvious, it's the -owner address of a Mailman mailing
list alled 'mailman-owner' that is built into Mailman and used for
internal administrative purposes.  That mailing list has been declared
the 'owner' of SVLUG's mailing lists (a configuration I've seen nowhere
else).

(Please do not post the URL of the listinfo address for that mailing
list.  We deliberately have it concealed so spiderbots don't come across
it, because the thing gets rather enough spam already.  Thank you.)
