Hi,
Thank you for getting back to me. yes, the speaker would be AB
Periasamy, CTO and co-founder at Gluster. I took a look at your website
and tried to see if the presentations are vendor specific or not. He
could discuss a petascale filesystem architecture or just provide a
general overview of GlusterFS, whichever your group would prefer.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Danielle
*Title: *Petascale Filesystem Architecture -- GlusterFS Case Study
*Abstract:*
As the explosion of unstructured data continues unabated, filesystems
are under tremendous architectural strain. Traditional and hybrid
filesystem architectures fail to meet the demanding challenges of both
public and private clouds and users in these environments struggle with
filesystem limitations. The petascale filesystem architecture is
designed to easily handle massive amounts of unstructured data and
linearly scale performance and capacity in order to efficiently manage
unplanned spikes in performance and provide high availability as a
standard function of the filesystem. This session will provide an
overview of how the petascale filesystem is architected and best
practices for building one for your environment. In addition, the
presenter will discuss detailed use cases, specifically for public and
private cloud environments.

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for your interest. Do not recall an earlier message from you.
What will be the subject of the talk and is Mr. Periasamy providing the
talk? Would the speaker be available for a talk in October 2011? We meet
monthly, 1st Wednesday evenings, 7-9 PM, at Symantec's Vcafe room, 350
Elllis Street, Mountain View, CA 94043, near E. Middlefield Road.
I will poll our users to see if there is interest. Please expect a
message from me in the next couple of days.

storage solutions
Hi --
I thought the SVLUG would be interested in a presentation from Anand
Babu (AB) Periasamy, CTO and co-founder at Gluster (www.gluster.com
<http://www.gluster.com>). Gluster focuses on delivering solutions that
provide the fastest path to public and private cloud storage. GlusterFS
is at the core of Gluster's scale-out storage solutions. GlusterFS is
an open source, distributed file system capable of scaling to several
petabytes and handling thousands of clients.
I have included more information about the product and AB's bio below.
If you are interested in having AB has a speaker at any of your upcoming
meetings please let me know. Thanks!
Best,
Danielle
GlusterFS clusters together storage building blocks over Infiniband RDMA
or TCP/IP interconnect, aggregating disk and memory resources and
managing data in a single global namespace. GlusterFS is based on a
stackable user space design and can deliver exceptional performance for
diverse workloads.
GlusterFS supports standard clients running standard applications over
any standard IP network. Figure 1, above, illustrates how users can
access application data and files in a Global namespace using a variety
of standard protocols.
No longer are users locked into costly, monolithic, legacy storage
platforms. GlusterFS gives users the ability to deploy scale-out,
virtualized storage -- scaling from terabytes to petabytes -- in a
centrally managed and commoditized pool of storage.
*Anand Babu (AB) Periasamy, CTO*
As CTO and Co-founder, AB sets the vision and strategy for the Gluster
product platform. Prior to Gluster, AB served as CTO at California
Digital Corporation, where his work led to the scaling of the commodity
cluster computing to supercomputing class performance. He drove the
adoption of cluster computing and GNU/Linux at enterprise data centers
and helped close strategic accounts at CDC. In 2004, AB led the
development of the world's second fastest Supercomputer "Thunder", for
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. AB also serves on the board of
"Free Software Foundation -- India". He is the author / contributor of
various other Free Software projects like GNU FreeIPMI (Intelligent
Platform Management Interface), GNU Garp (Gratuitous ARP Daemon),
bios-config (edit/replicate CMOS parameters), librpci/hdb (RPC interpose
for GNU Hurd) and Hymn/PlayFair (iTunes ripper), GNU Freetalk (Scheme
extensible messenger for Jabber, Google talk), and Freehoo (Scheme
extensible messenger for YahooIM). He holds a Computer Science
Engineering degree from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India.
