He's still doing it, and ignoring my prior, repeated, polite requests
that he subscribe his alternate addresses. This time, I didn't bother
writing a custom, helpful reject message, and just did a generic Mailman
reject.

Subject: Music server blues

Hey all,

I have a box configured as a headless music server. To see the exact
configuration go to penguinsites.com and click Skip Evans under Blogs on
the left hand side (it's on Ubuntu Forums somewhere too, but I can't find
the link).

Basically, I log into it with

ssh -x sevans at 192.168.1.42

and run exaile so that the app runs on my local machine and I can control
it from my workstation while I work.

It's worked great ever since I set it up, but today something very odd
started happening.

Any set of songs loaded will play one song, but when the song ends the
player goes gray and is totally inaccessible as if locked up.

But after a seemingly random amount of time, 10 seconds, 5 minutes, the
next song will start to play. And then the player goes gray again until
that song finishes, it stalls for any given time again, then lights back up
for a few seconds as the next song starts.

At a loss I uninstalled exaile and reinstalled it, but that made no
difference.

The box is running Ubuntu 8.10. I never bothered upgrading, figuring all it
does is play music so it serves its purpose well.

Any ideas why the app would stall between songs like that, but then start
again after some random period of time?

I'm stumped.

Much thanks as always,
Skip
