Hi everyone,
I sent an email to Matt Ettus whose company (www.ettus.com) makes a bunch
of software defined radio boards for use with GNU Radio and which has just released a new main board. (These products cost $1-2k to form a usable device, so they're either for building a system that costs more than that or for prototyping.)
In general, I find the idea of avoiding the layer of proprietary software and undocumented hardware that normally is the gatekeeper between free software systems and the airwaves to be both a bit liberating and something that might see a lot of commercial application as technology improves. One lwn.net commenter reacted to Matt Research's product announcement this way: "I really want one of these. Not sure what I would do with it, but I really want one!"
Anyhow, I hope we can arrange to have Matt speak at an upcoming SVLUG meeting.
Could someone who is more officially connected to SVLUG please take the ball from me by contacting Matt directly (I've cc'ed him) and try to arrange for him to give a talk? If you email Matt, please cc me on your initial contact or otherwise let me know that you're handling it so that I know that this suggestion is being handled.
Thanks in advance.
Adam Richter
