Well, it seems it'll be just one of those bizarre things that nobody
fully understands, but that don't hurt anything.

Yep. We're getting updates from ns1.svlug.org . Got one just today in
fact. Tony appears to be away right now, but he'll look at this further
when he returns I'm sure. However, it appears we are slaving not
mastering:

// Our western cousins
zone "svlug.org" {
        type slave;
        allow-query { any; };
        file "/etc/bind/db.svlug.org";
        masters {
                //ns1.svlug.org is:
                64.62.190.98;
        };
};

zone "svlug.net" {
        type slave;
        allow-query { any; };
        file "/etc/bind/db.svlug.net";
        masters {
                //ns1.svlug.net is:
                64.62.190.98;
        };
};

zone "svlug.com" {
        type slave;
        allow-query { any; };
        file "/etc/bind/db.svlug.com";
        masters {
                //ns1.svlug.com is:
                64.62.190.98;
        };
};

Config file on this hasn't changed in over a year.

OK, thanks, guys. It's really quite bizarre that ns1.nylug.org is
sending out NOTIFY signals, though. That's something that only
nameservers operating a zone in master mode should send. It's a signal
to slave nameservers that there's a fresh zonefile available to be
pulled down from the master.

Anyhow, zonefile S/Ns are testing as identical between the nameservers,
so it seems all is well generally:
