Right at the bottom of our General Meetings page, there's this:
Possible future meetings, yet to be scheduled, are listed on our
TBA page [link].
Link goes to http://www.svlug.org/tba.php . That's a page the Web Team
maintains manually, appending to it any ideas for speakers/topics that
people have mentioned on our mailing lists. The idea is to serve as a
place we can consult as a resource, whenever we're running low on
scheduled speakers. Notice that the page has, at _its_ bottom, quick
links to other groups' speaker pages, so we might consider inviting
someone who's given an interesting presentation at some nearby group in
the past.
I've mentioned the TBA page in this space several times, because I kept
getting the impression people weren't using it. The most recent time I
mentioned it, someone replied (paraphrased) "That page has only topics
we've already had." Then, my impression is, everyone started ignoring
the page again.
Well, surprise: I've just cross-checked the page's thirteen entries
against our Previous Meetings page, and NOT ONE of them is a
presentation we've already had.
So, please stop ignoring the page, people. It's there to help in
situations exactly like the one we've been in for the past couple of
years: short on presentations. We _could_ have presentations lined up
for the next six months, instead of barely getting the March speaker a
few days before the meeting, and having nothing for April.
Thanks.
