Marc - the sv_lug google group was created to serve as an out-of-band
communications mechanism for when the SVLUG server is down. That's
what it's for.
Yes, the server rebooted, and the mailinglist software restarted
properly today. Yes, I restarted apache yesterday, and the site came
partially back on-line then; I hadn't even finished cleaning up the
backlogged crap when this morning's unscheduled reboot restarted
mailman as well.
Regarding server admin - Marc, if you're unable to provide
administrative assistance for the server yourself, and you're likewise
unable to train or locate anyone else to help, I'd say, just don't let
it be worrisome; new replacement server solutions are in the works.
The thing's still working... well enough... so there's not really a
problem.
Regarding Joe, at Via.net - did he speak with you personally about
this? Did he ask you to pass on that request?
I admit that I didn't try to SSH into the server; when I saw that the
website wasn't responding, I contacted Via.net
and asked if they could take a look whenever they had a free moment.
So, it's disconcerting to hear this from you
(and not Joe) - if there's really an issue here, I need to know, since
I wasn't aware I was being an imposition.
I will, however, endeavor to remember to try SSH before assuming the
server died or its network got disconnected.
Regarding Joe's bill - 0.00 - I'll happily pass on any donations that
current or past SVLUG members wish to make to help Via.net cover their
operational expenses related to SVLUG (principally, power and
occasional eyeballs on the console).
Best regards,
-Paul Reiber
