I am unclear on why you guys departed from the
volunteers at lists.svlug.org mailing list into private mail. There is
information in these mails that our key volunteers probably need to
know, and also they should be recorded in our mailing list archives for
continuity of collective knowledge's sake. (Confidential info such as
passwords of course should not get posted.)
Quoting Paul Reiber (reiber at gmail.com):
[snip private mail]
I actually have no idea what is meant by Paul getting a "joker e-mail
address", FWIW. I'm not aware of them being in the business of hosting
e-mail for people, but I may be missing something.
Paul + Mark: There's something you should ask from Heather: The
Registrant login's password for domain svlug.net . The joker.com
account that "owns" (is Registrant for) svlug.net is
"svlugdomain+host at starshine.org", and Heather's never given the SVLUG
president that account's password. (There are various differences in
the setup of those two domains, probably accidental.)
To explain:
Access to domain records at joker.com is keyed to your "Login Email",
which is in the form of an e-mail address. Your ability to make domain
changes depends on whom (what "Login Email") you logged in as.
By way of comparison, Registrant for svlug.ORG is
"svlugdomain at starshine.org". This is the joker.com login account for
which we (Paul, Mark, Heather, Paul Reed, Micah Dowty, and I) have the
password, and so we've been literally logging in as
"svlugdomain at starshine.org", at the joker.com Web interface.
The human name _shown_ for svlug.org's Registrant is "Heather G. Stern",
but joker actually keys change privileges to the "Login Email".
So, because we've been logging in as "svlugdomain at starshine.org", we
have been able to fully administer the svlug.org domain.
By contrast, if you login to joker.com's Web interface as
"svlugdomain at starshine.org", and go to the svlug.NET domain's settings,
you are not that domain's Registrant. You _do_ have the access rights
of that domain's Administrative, Technical, and Billing contacts, since
those are all set to "svlugdomain at starshine.org". However, the
Registrant is "svlugdomain+host at starshine.org". Thus, if you ever have
to wield any rights permitted to the Registrant alone, you cannot.
It is my understanding that, in order to change the Technical Contact
for both domains to my name / address / telephone / e-mail, the
Administrative Contact for both domains to Paul Reiber's name / address
/ telephone / e-mail, and the Billing Conact for both domains to Mark
Weisler's name / address / telephone / e-mail, you will need to create
"contacts" aka "handles" (whose e-mail addresses then become joker.com
logins) for Rick, Paul, and Mark, and then change the Technical Contact,
Adminstrative Contact, and Billing Contact (for each domain) to repoint
to those "contacts". Here's what joker.com's FAQ says about creating "contacts"
(https://joker.com/faq/index.php?num=4&f_id=1&s_id=9&q_id=116):
Q: How to create or modify a contact?
A: Login into our Service zone using your email address and your password.
Select "Advanced Options -> Contact Settings -> create | change".
Modifying a contact will not change the owner of a domain.
Related (https://joker.com/faq/index.php?num=4&f_id=1&s_id=9&q_id=114):
Q: What is a contact?
A: Domains have persons linked to it, which are in charge of different
tasks (i.e. owner, admin, tech, billing). The data of these persons
(name, address, tel, email) is stored in records. These records are
labeled with what we call 'handle' or 'contact'. Contact-handles are
constructed in the following way: "email address plus a numerical
suffix" (for com-net-org domains) When you create a contact-handle,
the given email address inside will be used for reference. I.e. if you
use the email address
mail at joker.com
(and this address has not been used before), we get the contact-handle
mail at joker.com#0
as we start counting with 0 (zero). Subsequent creations based on
mail at joker.com will result in contact-handles
mail at joker.com#1
mail at joker.com#2
mail at joker.com#3
Paul, when you create and use these "contacts" in the domain records, you
will undoubtedly be given login passwords for those "contacts", which
you should pass along to the people in question.
My information, again, is: Rick Moen, 1105 Altschul Avenue, Menlo Park
CA 94025-6601, 650-283-7902, rick at linuxmafia.com. (This is what you'll
be using for the Technical Contact.)
Mark's information, again, is: Mark Weisler, 208 Tait Avenue, Los
Gatos, CA 95032, 408-898-4292, mark at weisler-saratoga-ca.us. (This is
what you'll use for the Billing Contact.)
You haven't said what you want to use for yourself as Administrative
Contact.
If you'd prefer for me to take care of this matter, just let me know --
but then I'll need whatever information (address, telephone, e-mail)
you want to use for Administrative Contact.
