I've now done that, and everything's back. (My thanks to Don for the
script; I just took it as given that his surmise was correct, and just
ran the Mailman archiver on a Debian "sid" box I created for this
purpose. Worked without a problem.)
Add to the roster of bizarre things about the legacy SVLUG box:
Attempting to make the sshd accept sockets on extra ports the normal way
(by adding more "Port nn" lines to /etc/ssh/sshd_config, then restarting
sshd) doesn't work, for reasons I cannot yet fathom.
