Oddly enough, I'd completely forgotten about the latter-cited subpage --
because I always just followed the link at the bottom of the page to
"List manager's subhost".
As a stopgap measure, I suppose I could bring the
http://www.svlug.org/maillists/ page roughly up to date (but avoid
getting into policies, there, maybe?). (See below -- I've now lightly
updated that page.)
> * At the bottom of both the list policy page and the maillists page,

I _think_ I can explain that. At one point, many years ago, the mailing
lists got moved to DNS subdomain lists.svlug.org, instead of being
@svlug.org addresses, as they had been until that point. I'm unclear on
whether this was because the lists moved to a physically separate
machine, or whether they were merely moved to a virthost on the same
box. I _believe_ they were separate machines, later re-joined, as they
are today. It's a good idea, either way, because it (subsequently)
allows you to move the mailing list function around to whatever machine
desired, without inconveniencing users.
The old mailing list addresses (e.g., svlug at svlug.org) continued to
work, even then, because of aliases.
That isn't the only subhost names SVLUG has used: Sometimes, in older
list posts, you'll see the hostname "svlug.svlug.org". I have a feeling
that wasn't supposed to escape out into list addresses, but it did at
one point. ;->
Anyhow, suddenly the "mailing list policies" page
(http://www.svlug.org/policies/list-policy.shtml) sprouted the text and
hyperlink at its bottom, around that time, linking to
http://lists.svlug.org/lists/listinfo/ .

OK, done. That page now more-or-less accurately describes the current
mailing lists as an immedate measure, and cross-referenes other pages
where useful -- leaving the problem you detailed, that list description
is still spread out across multiple places.
By the way, add to that list the "jobs policy" page,
http://www.svlug.org/policies/job-policy.shtml, which I updated in
August 2004 as directed by Don Marti.
