I'm a big fan of installing multiple GOSFUIs (Graphical Operating
System Facing User Interface), although I think KDE is a mistake
because in general it's unstable and huge.
What I'd recommend instead is installing one or several small GOSFUIs
to use in case speed or stability becomes an issue. Also, for each
additional GOSFUI, you usually get additional terminal emulators and
perhaps file managers, so even if you don't use the GOSFUI, you can use
its components.
Because of lxterminal and lxrandr, I'm a big fan of installing LXDE
even if you never use it. Lxrandr has saved my life, many times, during
presentations with a projector.
