Good thought, but no, doesn't help.

It only occurs twice, both in sections I pasted: the one before the
"truncate" bit, and the one at the end.

https://github.com/galo2099/curlftpfs/issues/6 had a patch that
apparently cures it in some cases, but it didn't help with this
server.
