Why would I or Rick or anyone care about backing up /dev and /proc?  If there are any custom /dev entries, then good practice says that he has the scripts (which I can backup) already in place to recreate them as needed (and I trust Rick for such best-practice things).  And /proc is similar: if he has any runtime updates to /proc values, he'll have scripts for those as well and I can backup those too.

But none of that is currently relevant.  The request was to backup the mailing lists, archives, etc and that doesn't include /dev or /proc.
