Does this particular modem work better than a D-Link ADSL2+ 520B?
The problem I'm having with the D-Link modem, I lose the ability to ping
and worse after a while and have to power cycle the modem.
The Actiontec GT701D modem is advertised as being low temperature and
low power. Can it handle 80-92 degrees fahrenheit? Can DHCP be turned
off? I have a static Internet subnet, so will this modem work with
that? Is the modem PPPoE ready? The setup of our static subnet is
a bit odd. I have one global IP for the modem and five others in the
same block. The current modem routes for the whole entire block.
Another option is a TP-Link ADSL2+ modem. No wireless on the modem
please.
Hard to compare DSL modems and even harder to find out if one has a
buffering bug for example. I'm pretty sure that this is what is wrong
with my D-Link modems. Perhaps the D-Link doesn't have much memory
and runs into trouble recovering memory over time. Hardly any time
passes and you can't ping across the modem. The Dlink DSL-520B is
supposed to use open source software, but I can't get the source
code for the OS :-(
Having to power cycle a DSL modem so smtp will work and ping will work
is unacceptable. I hope there is a DSL modem that doesn't need to be
power cycled every month or so. One concern I have about a "green DSL
modem," there is no time to sleep for an always on connection.
