[svlug] SMTP on 587...

What does secure smtp on port 587 require?

I'm thinking of doing secure smtp over a Comcast cable connection that
has a dynamic IP. This way, during a DSL outage, I can get my domain's
email from a backup spooler.

Do I need a real Verisign certificate for my domain? They are a wee bit
pricey.

Perhaps I don't need a certificate, just an agreed upon user name and
password?

I hope my IP address doesn't have to be recognizable. Dynamic DNS might
be a possibility... but the only name server that will be available for
my domain will be the one at Eskimo.
