[svlug] Gnome3 'r' from another tty

Hi all,
I am using Linux Mint 12 and sometimes run into a problem where I still
have my mouse arrow moving, but nothing is clicking. Like the screen turns
to image.
Usually, restarting Gnome by alt-f2 and 'r' does it, but not always. Then I
can move to another tty (ctrl+although+f2 for example) and kill
gnome-session. But that also kills all the apps. I tried gnome-session
-replace, but that complains I cannot get to the display.
Is there any way to just restart gnome instead of killing the session, like
r does in the graphic tty (tty7)?
