[svlug] xbmc vs mythtv-frontend

I've been using mythtv for many years, but quite frankly, even in 0.24,
the media center pieces, outside of playing its own recorded videos,
suck.
Playing flash video from youtube or others, it bad to say the least,
when it works at all.
Playing DVDs was so so last it worked (it broke after the upgrade,
haven't tracked down why yet).
No support for amazon prime videos or anything else like that.
So, I looked at XBMC again, which I'm told is much better at those
things, especially because it includes amazon video support it seems:

This is great.
But...
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=MythTV
says that
1) mythtv 0.24 backend is not supported by the last released version
2) xbmc does not support controlling mythtv-backend for anything other
than playback. This means that I'd have to switch between mythfrontend
and xbmc on my media player or use another to schedule shows to record.
Very non ideal...
Is it indeed the state of affairs?
I do rely on mythtv-backend quite a bit, so I want to keep that, but I
sure wouldn't mind replacing mythtv-frontend with something better.
Thanks,
Marc
