[svlug] Mic won't work in Skype under Hardy

hi,

I am using Hardy (GNOME) to run Skype.  I am able to dial in to the Skype
call testing service, but Skype does not record my voice.  I have tested the
mic on a <choke> Windows partition and the mic is good.  I have tested to
see if the mic cable is firmly plugged in and it is.  I have checked to make
sure tha the mic levels are up properly in the volume control and they are.
I have installed alsa-firmware and made sure that the Alsa mixer is the
device which has been selected.

I have checked the jacks on my machine to make sure they are good, and they
are good.  I can actually hear myself through the mic when I wear my
headphones, in the same way that you can hear yourself on the phone when you
are talking on the phone and thus you know you have a live mic.
