Adobe says of FlashPlayer:

  "Only Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) is supported (OSS/ESD will not
  play audio; audio will silently fail).".

I'm getting exactly that symptom!

I have some evidence that ALSA is installed but not being used. I did:

  rpm -q -l alsa-lib-1.0.6-5.RHEL4| grep bin| xargs ls -ltu

How can I tell if I'm using ALSA? And if I'm not, how do I assure that I am?

I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 7), Kernel
verion 2.6.9-78.0.13.ELsmp.
