[svlug] verrrrry slow downloads

Darlene,

I have a DSLextreme account and I'm not using Miro. There are times when
things download extremely fast (like 170 MB/s) and the next time I download,
,the speed can be under 50 MB/s. In other words, the problems are similar to
yours.

I've been keeping track of what downloads fast (and slow) and I suspect
Andrew Wilcox is correct that it's limited available bandwidth and/or volume
of simultaneous downloads. I suspect that in my case, Gmail may have
something to do with this, because sometimes it takes a very long time for
them to upload files and emails. Incidentally, I usually close Firefox
before downloading updates, because this is always faster.
