[svlug] getting libquicktime.so.1 in Hardy Ubuntu

hi,

I am trying to compress some .dv raw video files with transcode on the
command line under Hardy Ubuntu 32 bit. The output is not good in that it
just gives me a green error screen when I try to play it with standard video
players like vlc or totem or mplayer. Also, during the compression process,
I notice that the compression rate is wildly high, like 170 frames per
second or something like, whereas a more normal compression rate is around
30 frames per second.

So, to try to figure out what is going on, I ran this command

cje at tbb:/media/Top_Drive_3/editedDV/104$ transcode -i
e-dv104_pa_16_bdale_garbee_intro_004.dv -o
e-dv104_pa_16_bdale_garbee_intro_004.mpg -y xvid

and watched it work. I looked through the shell output, and I noticed this
error message:

tcprobe: error while loading shared libraries: libquicktime.so.1: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

So i opened synaptic (the newbie's tool of choice) and tried to find
libquicktime.so.1 and go no results. I broadened the search to quicktime
and got lots of stuff, but nothing close to libquicktime.so.1 which is what
transcode is complaining that it needs. I am very leery of getting packages
that are not in the Ubuntu repository, and so I am coming to this list to
ask for tips. Thanks in advance for any help!
