Or if you were intelligent enough to avoid the obvious trap of
cutting-edge hardware, and deploying by preference on machines
comprising 1+ year old chipsets.

I'm watching progress of FIC's Neo FreeRunner (towards being a viable
option, I mean) with interest.  

Meantime, I personally don't ask much of a cellular telephone beyond
making calls and keeping a modest contact list.  Some day, maybe I'll be
sold on replacing my cruddy old cellular and cruddy old PDA with a truly
open smartphone, but not yet.
