I know that the nokia n800 can also tether to the razor via bluetooth..
Sarah uses that setup constantly. But then she uses the phone as a passive
modem, and has the 5GB capped 'unlimited' data plan. It probably wouldn't
help with the MMS charges, but it does get you a decent modem.
You might want to look into that. the n800 is Linux based, so if it can
use the razor, it is possible your linux box can too.
I'm interested to see what will happen with nokia open-sourcing symbian.
my previous phone was a (locked to att) nokia 9300. Nice phone, but I
never was able to make it work as a modem for my computer, though I was able
to run ssh directly on it. If symbian is open-source, I imagine that if I
pay the money for an unlocked phone, that sort of thing will become much
easier.
