Brilliant!!  this works wonderfully, thank you!!  aumix installed easily
with Synaptic, and the virtual shell worked really well for adjusting
volume!  The nice thing about using the CLI for volume is that you are able
to quickly get the volume level you want.

It would be nice to know the GUI tool for toggling back and forth between
the window and full screen mode, though, because fb is something that I show
to newbies, and they probably would not want to use the virtual shell to
adjust volume.  But it sure is fun to play with the virtual shell for this
stuff!
