[svlug] Using Linux as a testing platform

I'm sure many of you use Linux for testing.

I'm mainly interested in those of you who use it for qualifying SATA
hard drives, which applications you use and which SATA host adapters
have the the fastest throughput.
I need a way to test SATA drives, not for performance but for shaking
out data integerity issues which usually only show up after very long
test iterations.
