Exceptions have been a powerful feature of the C++ language. They provide code clarity and program correctness. However, they require a different mind set (unlike C's), violation of which may ironically be the cause of subtle bugs and lost resources.
This talk will introduce C++ exception safety. It will cover C++ object life times, resource management, exceptions, smart pointers, and a set of guidelines that will help develop programs that are strongly exception safe.
Ali Cehreli has been working as a C++ programmer in Silicon Valley since 1996. His experience has been with small and large companies in various fields, currently with Riverbed.
Meetings are open to the public and are free of charge.
