If you do consider a nullmailer, be aware that most nullmailers have
no local delivery option. Their only job is to forward any mail
through a relay host. That means, among other things, that root
mail from your system (for instance, cron job output) will end up at
root at your.mail.relay. I never found a way around that with any of
the nullmailers I tried, and I wasn't comfortable with the idea of
root mail from my system ending up somewhere else, so I went back to
postfix even though it's way more complex than I need for a desktop
or laptop.
I didn't try all the nullmailers on Rick's very comprehensive list,
just the ones I found in aptitude search a year or two ago, so maybe
there's one there that doesn't have that problem.
