hi ya

- i'm just rattling the "community" cage ..

- is anybody else running for Pres/VP of svlug ??

paul/mark is the only ones that have announced it

- personally, i think it would be fun to have somebody
from china/russia/europe be the pres/vp of svlug
since svlug is a community effort and not everybody is local

but, you would have extra work in finding a local
moderator to hold the meetings and keep the crowd
in check or the crowd can be self policing too during the meetings

its time for "new blood" and "new thinking"

- what i could find about Pres/VP stuff

	http://svlug.org/cgi-bin/stv/svlug-pres-term-2004

	- somebody needs to update that voting script to take the
voting since the folks at sbay.org is not here this time around
to do the voting and tallying

- i do not know why there is no searchable svlug archives
for "officer's duties" and functions and responsibilities and
  description etc

	- i know it all existed at one time

- since the svlug.org server "will" be rebuilt:

-- what new features does the community want to see happen ??

-- who else wants to get tehir fingers dirty and/or get
iut cut off along the way and sew'n back on and know a
few more geeky tricks for your next interview

-- i think a shell acct with static ip# is a good service
since some folks do require static ip# before you can login
	into a more secure network

- today's trick question ...

both xxx and yyy are legal users on svlug.org
and the passwords etc is known

there is no wheel group in /etc/group ..

xxx can ssh in remotely and can become "su - root"
yyy can ssh in remotely, but canNOT become "su - root"

- btw, for those of you that do not know ... i broke into the svlug
machine to get it back online ... asap ( 2 hrs after i got it ) ..

	- all the old config files are still intact if it is needed

	- i changed the ip# around and root pwd ( that i didnt know) :-)
( my excuse is: i had to .. i had no choice :-)

	- we also have a (real) colo that will host the existing server
at no charge .... not xxx hosting from yyy hosting from zzz
who has the real cabinet at a real colo

	- paul/micah/rick is working on the virtual server but it's
	not quite ready yet

	- if you previously had an svlug acct, you will need to get me
your ip# if you want access to the machine since i turned
	on tcp-wrappers ( hosts.allow and denying all:all )

c ya
