>From just helping a person set theirs up the tech support said that
the software gives the router a "temp" id for the handshakes that
go on between the the two during the initial setup.

I found this out for we attempted to connect/setup prior to the
service being turned on (mixup on activation dates) and the techsupp
had me "reset" the modem (ten second depression of reset button) to
wipe the "temp" id that it had deposited on the router.

Will be attempting to do the setup again tomorrow.
