You could probably cite a hundred mailing lists with totally open
posting policies; I could probably scare up some thousands.  My point is
the overwhelming tendency -- in my fairly broad experience -- largely in
reaction to the spam blizzard.  (Yes, there are some good but not
perfect MTA-and-other-level techniques.  Marc or I might have fun
discussing them with you.  ;->  )

I'd actually be delighted to be generally incorrect in this matter,
because that would mean the world had somehow become a much better
place.  Alas, I do fear that my statement was pretty much correct as
stated.  Bummer, man.
