FWIW, LUGOD's Constitution and Bylaws (necessary for our 501(c)7 status, and
the rules by which we run the club... albeit loosely) are available online:

  http://www.lugod.org/documents/objectives/

I'm guessing there are other LUGs and (non-Linux UGs) out there in the US who
similarly have such documents posted due to their non-profit status.
Of course, there are probably plenty of people in the SVLUG community which
are part of non-computer-user-group non-profits who might be able to help
provide documentation.

I mentioned at last night's meeting (when the question was asked:
"how long does it usually take for a club to incorporate?"), that LUGOD took
approx. 12 months to receive our 501(c)7 status from the government.

To give a better idea of the timeline, I dug through our meeting minutes:

  * Jan. 1999 - First meeting / club formation

  * Feb. 1999 - First officers voted in; rough-draft of Constitution created

  * March 1999 - Decided to become a "tax-exempt social club
                 (specifically, a hobby club)".

  * Nov. 1999 - From the minutes:

    Tax Exempt Status - The IRS has confirmed receipt of our application
    for recognition as a Non Profit Organization. We should expect to hear
    from them within 120 days (from October 12th).

  * Feb. 2000 - Minutes note that the IRS "has requested details as to what
    percentages of time our club spends on different activities."

  * March 2000 - We are an official 501(c)7.

Enjoy!
