This is an interesting point: when did this vote originally occur?
See, I was under the impression that it occurred in mid-2004, within 4-6 six
months of the beginning of the term.
Shows what I know.
I have found that discussion about SBAY incorporating has been going on for
much longer than I had originally assumed
(http://lists.svlug.org/archives/svlug/2002-January/039493.html).
Chris Verges raised the important question: how are we going to vote on
this? In asking for some history on the volunteers list, the responses I've
gotten indicate that the SBAY/SVLUG merger was voted on by a hand vote at a
meeting.
"People were given ample notice."
Going back through the svlug and svlug-announce's email archives, I can't
find ANY mention/announcement of this vote at all. I started from June of
2001 on the svlug list and back to September of 2000 on the announce list,
and couldn't find a mention of it anywhere (searching for 'SBAY').
There were no pro/con statements/rebuttals, like those that appear at
http://corp.sbay.org/board/svlug-sbay-20060213.html.
I can't seem to find any historical discussion on the pros/cons of this
arrangement.
I'm sending this out because I'm trying to gain more historical perspective
on this relationship (and also seeing how this vote was initially
conducted; I think that's a good way to conduct it now), and I can't find
any evidence that it was ever really discussed at all.
I'm hoping someone who was there can point us all in the right direction.
Later,
Paul
