[svlug] Confused about swap partitions

Hey all,

Since I've typically relied on whatever distro
I've installed to handle setting up partitions, I
don't have any real experience doing so for Linux
(done it for BSD, but there again, the install
handles it, and I've typically taken the defaults.)

I read over the link Rick sent through:
http://kmself.home.netcom.com/Linux/FAQs/partition.html

...but what I'm confused about is that swap
doesn't seem to show up as an actual partition like:

/swap

...or at least Karsten doesn't list it so in his
documentation.

When you do a df command, should the swap
partition show up there? For example, here is the
output on my Xandros 3.0 install:

sevans at linux1:~$ df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available
Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda2 80073544 12888540 67185004
  17% /
tmpfs 453284 0 453284
   0% /dev/shm

No swap is listed.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
