[svlug] Partitions for live CD install

Hey all,

As long as we're on the topic of live CDs, and 
related topics, I must confess to not really 
knowing how to partition the hard drive for Linux, 
and I think that may be a big part, if not the 
whole problem, I'm having loading many of them to 
this old machine.

I have been setting up a pretty small boot 
partition under something like hda1, and then a 
the larger part of the drive that always seems to 
get name hda5, for some reason.

What are more appropriate partition sizes, and 
shouldn't the first one be the boot partition? I 
think maybe I'm not getting the grub loader in the 
right place.

In addition to some tips, relevant links for some 
education would be most appreciated.
