[svlug] getting a unique hostid on Debian Sarge

All,
Some RH systems have the problem that they all seem to generate the
same "unique" hostid; A bug in RH installation that is supposetly
remedied by calling "/sbin/genhostid" on RH systems. 

A customer has now asked me whether this problem also exists on Debian
Sarge and since I neither have a Debian box nor officially support
Debian with our software, I'd like to ask this: 

Does hostid generate a "unique" hostid on a Debian Sarge system?

Can someone please shed some light on this issue for me?
