Suggestion:  Download the live-CD Kubuntu version for your CPU type.

There are always two ISOs each of Ubuntu/Kubuntu release for each of 
the three supported CPU architectures:  install and live-CD.  Thus,
I (often) end up downloading twelve ISOs, every time they release 
(3 archs x 2 install-or-not-variants x 2 desktop-types).
