[svlug] Recommendations for SATA RAID controller under Linux

3ware is good. From what I recall, the 8000 series uses pata to sata
converter chips on it, using the older pata raid chipset, and the 9000
series uses a true sata chipset giving it better performance.

But I could be wrong :-) I use an 8000 series and it works very well.
Easy setup, zero problems.
