http://www.linux-live.org/

"Linux Live is a set of shell scripts which allows you to create own LiveCD from
every Linux distribution. Just install your favourite distro, remove
all unnecessary
files (for example man pages and all other files which are not
important for you)
and then download and run these scripts."

Seems promising for this type of problem. Might be interesting to add
a USB keychain, though I suppose you might not always be able to use
it (security policies are odd things - you might be allowed to boot
from a CD, but not to plug in a USB device)

Also, there's http://www.colinux.org/, which lets you "boot" Linux in
a window on Windows. I think that either colinux, or a derivative,
will work in a mode where you can either boot things as a task within
Windows, or reboot the machine into Linux.
