[good suggestions snipped]
Karsten,
Thanks for the suggestions, which I tried last night. I successfully booted
from the DSL CD on another system. (The X Server fails, but that's probably a
different issue.) So I'm still suspicious of the SCSI drive being the problem.
Separate question: on that other system, Knoppix and FC2 both boot
successfully, but the old monitor doesn't sync to the video signal generated
(does work with Windows). I played with the XFree86config file but nothing I
tried worked. Does anyone have a suggestion for generic safe mode parameters,
or perhaps a URL that will provide some information (my next stop is
xfree86.org).
Thanks all for reading.
