Putting toghether a budget box this weekend, 1 how-to
among a nearly infinite number of potential ways.
Start at the center, the motherboard, not the
cpu. I've already looked at the board Fry's would sell
u with a sempron 2200+ for ~$50 and its memory
adjustments r the 1 thing i like about it. Assuming
getting the visa card at micro-center doesn't have
enormous drawbacks, using the discount to get a va-10
abit board + an older design athlon 2400+ cpu seems a
better choice. the slower fsb, 133 vs 166, allows
more overclocking and i think they throw in the cpu
fan too. You pay more sales tax at micro-center and
applying for a credit card is a hassle but the slower
fsb lets you use that boards slight overclocking
features vs a maximum fsb of 166 on the Fry's rig.
Finish with the Fry's specials $60 for '160g' of
drive, $60 for a 512m stick of ram that can support a
basic fsb of 200mhz, $60 for a 8x dvd +- r/rw. I saw a
$25 case once with 4+7 slots and ok power. finish the
externals like keyboard +vid 2taste.
Actual mileage may vary+warning u wanna overclock for
budget reasons but it can kill your box!
