That one is easy... the "applications that are on the desktop (the ones
without a menu at the top.) are superkaramba apps
(http://netdragon.sourceforge.com) The transparency is available by
adjusting things in the kde control center.  Play away!  (check out
http://kde-look.org and http://kde-apps.org for more fun.)
