[svlug] Fun with gtkrc

I'm attempting to use gtk/glade to develop a UI for work. My
development system is my Sony Vaio FX190k laptop, booting into Fedora
Core 1.

One thing that I've run into is that if I run Gnome as my window
manager, it totally ignores my .gtkrc file.

I had slightly better luck if I made a theme file in
~/.themes/Lrcmist00

I was going nuts before I tried booting into KDE, where things worked
better.

I'm still only having partial success getting things to come up with
the colors I want.

I've tried to RTFM. I've got the SAMS learn GTK+ in 21 days book. I've
found Havoc's tutorial which is a bit out of date, as are most of the
other tutorials I've found.

I have not been able to find a clear explanation of how the gtkrc
files really work. For example if I have a label widget and set varous
fg, bg etc. values, it seems like the fg vales get set, but base and
background are ignored.

Buttons tend to be an even bigger nightmare.

I'm trying to get a vertical row of buttons that depending upon the
state of variables are either blue or yellow lettering on a black
background, or alternatively, black lettering on a blue or yellow
background.

I'm completely stumped as to how to do this. Any help, or pointers to
useful documentation, would be greatly appreciated.

I've found something worse than oldies station that play the music I used to
listen to. Oldies stations that play the "new" music I used to complain about.
