I never said it was failed, only that I knew about it.  :)  
Asterisk is successful, and for many folks it works well.  
Likewise for Bayonne.  But I'd suggest that the world is bigger 
than Asterisk, and the fact that it speaks its own protocols 
rather than trying to be standards based is a strike against it.  
You can gateway to it though, of course.  

I was referring to the larger picture, as in "why are there not 
more projects, more varied solutions, more stuff, nore linux 
supported hardware?"
