Don't know about this - the theory is that SATA is a little faster. Real
life you probably won't see much difference as the physical drive is the
same.

Probably not with the stock kernel. It's not the drive that is the issue
- it's the drivers for the controllers.
I'm running SATA drives on my desktop (Intel ICH5R chipset) using the
libata patch with 2.4.24 on debian sid and it's been rock solid.
