[svlug] Very slow FTP login

Hello all,

I have just set up two brand new machines, one with FreeBSD 4.9, and a 
second for a workstation with the Xandros 2.0 Linux desktop. I just 
connected them (Plus a windows machine), through a new Linksys BEFSR41 
router.

All seems well, except when I try and connect through ftp from the Linux 
machine to BSD it does connect... but... very... slowly. It takes about 
three minutes to prompt for a user name, the password comes right back, but 
then another three or four minutes to get a prompt and allow access to the 
host. From then on things are as to be expected.

Anyone have any idea why just the login would be so slow?
