Curiosity was a factor in my early plunge as well, as was this
newfangled 386sx I had bought early on in 1991 and a desire to see what
it could really do with some RAM that wasn't just involving it running
as a fast 8086. :)
I had managed to find Delorie's DOS gcc port long before I found out
about linux and was playing with it off and on (look ma, I can malloc()
a megabyte!) :) and then I got wind of this linux thing sometime later
(1992 or 1993 I think) as someone had posted boot/root disks for it on a
local BBS.
