[svlug] linux external sound card

does any one know of any external sound cards that are well supported in
linux?  i am mainly looking for usb sound cards and want something that
would compare to an audigy 2 nx.  i need a sound card to connect my
laptop to my 5.1 subwoofer/speakers (logitech z530).

i recently bought an audigy 2 nx but the functionality provided by the
linux drivers is so minimal that i am going to return the audigy.
