Virtually none of it actually gets read by the principal (or even senior 
staff) but it gets counted, summarized, and categorized, more likely 
off-site these days. Original letters, preprinted letters/postcards, 
faxes, phone calls, emails are all counted separately.  Those formats 
that require more effort by the sender and are less likely to have been 
orchestrated by an interest group are probably more effective.
