[svlug] printing to unsupported printers via win shares

Hi,
I was reading about Linux Printing and noticed as
statement alone the following line: "When configuring
a remote printer (LPD, SMB, NCP), the remote printer
will have its own driver. Do not add an additional
print driver to the local system as the data will be
filtered on the local system and the remote printer,
thus resulting in double filtering."
Does this mean that I can use a printer that is not
supported in Linux by doing the following:
1. connect the printer to a windows system
2. install the print driver in windows
3. share the printer via windows networking (SMB)
4. on Linux, configure a remote printer that can be
accessed via SMB
Will this work?
My thinking is that Linux will send unfiltered data to
the Windows shared printer and then Windows will apply
the appropriate filter using the driver on Windows.
Thanks in advance,
Akbar
