Founded in 1998 in Palo Alto, California, VMware, Inc. is the first
company to bring mainframe-class virtual machine technology to
industry-standard computers. Based on patented and patent-pending
technology, VMware virtual machine software simplifies computing
infrastructure and dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of
delivering enterprise services. VMware delivered its first product,
VMware(tm) Workstation in 1999. The company entered the server market
in 2001 with two products - VMware GSX Server(tm) and VMware ESX
(tm) - for departmental and enterprise servers.

Today, VMware is the global leader of virtual machine software for
Intel-compatible computers, with more than 1 million registered users
spread across 80 percent of the Global 100. Customers are using
software throughout the enterprise - from the desktop to the data
center - for server consolidation, workload management, and
development, testing and deployment. By running services in virtual
machines spread across one or more PCs, VMware customers have reduced
the total cost of ownership (TCO) of their computing infrastructure
from 50 to 80 percent.
